CREATING OUR LIFE VISION

You’ve probably heard that you can only get where you want to be if you know where you’re going. This pithy statement is as true now as the first time it was said. So how do we come to know where we’re going so we can get where we want to be?

To start with, goals are crucial. When we set goals, what we’re really trying to do is to bring each piece of our lives in line with our overall vision for ourselves. Using a powerful vision-setting process can help us set more effective goals, because we can then chart a course that will take us toward our vision.

Do you have a vision for each segment of your life? Do you know where you’re headed spiritually, socially, relationally, physically, financially, and more?

This process can help us create our vision plan!

  1. We can write our vision for a particular aspect of our life. Writing a couple of paragraphs that describe what we’d like to have or be is a great start. There’s no right or wrong. In fact, we probably won’t precisely articulate our dreams the very first time we try the exercise.
  • In writing our vision, we want to avoid focusing on what we don’t want and, instead, focus on what we want to manifest. Turn your back on negativity.
  • For example, if we want more money, we don’t write “I don’t want to be poor anymore.” Instead, we envision what it would be like to have all our needs met, which is what we want. That’s what we write about. What that would FEEL like? Picture how your daily life would change. Feel the joy of getting up in the morning and knowing that you no longer have financial worries. We imagine all the bad stuff. What a waste of imagination!
  • Although we may feel challenged when first learning to focus on what we want (and not on what we DON’T WANT!), it gets easier. Plus, the rewards are spectacular when we do this consistently. We’ll start to notice that our life seems as if we can change it at will, which we can.
  1. We’ve got our vision statement, now we want to read it two to three times a day, while imagining that this is true NOW, feeling how we will feel when our vision is realized. Feeling the excitement makes this even more real. Find that spot in your body where you feel this excitement.  Are you really excited and enthusiastic? Is it appealing to you on all levels? We want to remember this feeling so we can recall it when we read our statement and even throughout the day. This feeling can help connect us to this feeling. This exercise shouldn’t take more than 60 seconds to do each time.
  1. If we don’t feel really good about our vision, we keep making changes to it. We continue refining the image of our dream life until doing our visualization feels spectacular. This is a living document and will continue to change as we change throughout our entire lives.
  1. We can create separate vision statements for all the areas of our life. We might consider a vision statement for

Creating a vision is the first step to creating wonderful life.

When we consider all the things we do every day, and realize these tasks and communications and projects either help us reach our vision or do nothing to help us get there, it makes it obvious where we want to focus our attention.

Let’s make our visions our reality!
